Dr. Evans was appointed Chief Helper to the Presiding Bishop and Prelate over HOGC churches in the West Coast of Florida, California, and Jamaica.  Moreover, he serves as the General Counsel/Advisor for the National House of God Church, with its headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee.  Dr. Evans loves the Lord and the Grand Ole House of God Church.

Minister, administrator, attorney, community activist, team player, and dreamer/doer are all words used to describe Dr. Gilbert Lee Evans, Jr.   He hails to us from Crescent City/Palatka, Florida, where he has lived all of his life.        

Gilbert received an AA degree from St. Johns River Community College, a B.A. and M.S. degree in English from Florida State University, a M.S. in Administration from Florida State University, and a Ph.D. and J.D. from the University of Florida.

During his academic pursuits, Dr. Evans’ Ph.D. dissertation was nominated by the University of Florida as the “Dissertation of the Year.”  He was a MPLE Law Fellow, while attending the University of Florida College of Law, where he graduated with distinctive honor.  In addition, Dr. Evans has published articles in several legal, professional, and educational journals.

Currently, Dr. Evans is the Vice President and Assistant General Counsel at St. Johns River State College.  He also operates a small law practice, where he specializes in Will and Trust and Family Law.  In addition, Dr. and Mrs. Evans are the owners of D & G Childcare and Learning Center, Inc., located in Palatka, Florida.

Gilbert is licensed to practice law in Florida and the federal court system.  Gilbert is or has been a member of several professional, civic, and social associations, such as the American Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association, the Putnam County Bar Association, Florida Association of Community Colleges, Rotary International, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.  Gilbert was recently inducted into the Putnam County Hall of Fame.  Dr. Evans is or has been a member of the Board of Directors for the following organizations: Palatka Housing Authority, Putnam County Memorial Hospital, Florida Habitat for Humanity, and Communities in Schools, Inc.,

 

Dr.  Evans is a lifelong member of the House of God Church.  He pastors the House of God Church in Palatka, Florida.  The church dedicated its new sanctuary (Phase 1) several years ago.  This church, which has a multiplicity of ministries ranging from “Feed the Hungry” to “Children’s Church” to DVD/CD production of all Sunday morning worship services, is a thriving ministry.  The church has grown from 7 seven members to several hundred, who call the House of God Church their spiritual home.  Dr. Evans’ primary goal and objective, according to his strategic plan for the church, is for the Sunday Morning Worship Services to be televised on the Word Network.

He is married to his best friend & the love of his life, Mrs. Detra Evans.  They have two children, Derrick and D’Asia.
